Fast Facts
Troy is a quaint little town of just over 13,500 residents. It is the county seat of Lincoln County and located a short 60 minute drive to the big city of St. Louis. It is a growing city as the population has more than doubled since 2000. Troy was established in 1819 and according to who you believe, it was named after Troy, New York. Enough facts, lets dive into some fun.
Shopping
If you are looking for a once in a lifetime shopping experience you can head on down to the Downtown Business District. There are dozens of locally owned businesses and shops, some of which date back as far as the 1800’s. Be sure to visit The Trendy Trunk and Clemmie & Jo Boutique. These two clothing boutiques are where the locals shop. They love both the quality and the value of the items that are found in both places.
There is also the Highway 47 Business District which has the highest number of businesses in one location. If you are looking for the larger shopping centers such as Walmart, this is the place to find those businesses in the city.
Parks and Recreation
There are three main parks in the city of Troy with plenty to do for the young and the young at heart. The largest park in the city is the Fairgrounds Park which has several soccer fields and covered pavilions, a basketball court, and skating ramps to name some of the attractions located at this park. It even has a pond with ducks and geese.
Weinand and Avery Parks are the other two parks in the area. They consist of walking trails and playgrounds. If you aren’t up for all of that activity there are barbecue pits and picnic areas as well.
Cuivre River State Park
If you feel more called to a nature experience, Troy has that for you as well. Cuivre River State Park is a beautiful state park that has plenty of opportunities for adventure. You can take in the breathtaking views from the multiple hiking trails or from the lake. Should you want to take a horseback ride through the park that is possible as well. There are also wonderful campsites that you can take advantage of to be able to enjoy the park at night.
For the Artist
If you are an artist or ever wanted to try your artistic hand, you would probably want to take a visit to Naturally Designed. At Naturally Designed you are offered not only can you pick up some unique natural items (hence the name), but you can also create pottery and paint items. Not skilled in either? They offer lessons and workshops so you can develop your artistic side even further.
Lincoln County Missouri Historical Society
This is a museum located in Troy which contains several artifacts that will give you a clue to the history of Lincoln County. The Historical Society runs many different programs throughout the year. An updated listing of these events can be found on their Facebook page.
Community Events
Due to the small size of the city, there are several community events that are known usually only to locals. We have you covered though since we were able to uncover some of them that are listed by the Troy Chamber of Commerce and those events can be found here. From the looks of the calendar there seems to be quite a few community events which is not surprising in a community of the size of Troy, MO.
